1999 book, so some of the technology is a bit behind, however, I do like her Scottish mystic magic books. This has the usual man slightly out of sync with the world, and damsel in slight distress. They come together, bad things seem to happen and eventually all is well in their world.
Always a fun read of the Draycott Abbey series.

The Perfect Gift Christina Skye 9780380800230 Books Reviews

As many reviewers start out, I must have read a different book from the other reviewers. I have many of the Draycott books but decided to read this one first as it appeared to be Christmas related. It wasn't. It was a befuddling mess as far as I was concerned. I am more than willing to admit that if I had read the others in order, in might not have been so confusing but it still was a mess. We spend 270 pages with a very unlikeable h constantly changing her mind about the H. On one single page, she first thanked him for saving her life, that tries to hit him in the next paragraph, and two paragraphs later, says, "Oh don't go out, you might get hurt!" Then after all that time she suddenly wants to make wild passionate love with him and she will get him in bed no matter what. Now, at the same time there is an understory of a past lives/ ghosts inhibiting them kind of thing, so do they really care for each other or just remnants of other lives? That's a real complimentary thought. Then at the end they run for their lives right to a place that happens to have ghost helpers and they just leave their dog without any mention as to who will take care of him. In other spot, he takes her from a roomful of people, lays her on the bed, and she immediately has his "member" in her hand--really? what happened to getting undressed? Or at least opening his zipper? With 270 pages of nothing really happening, then we leave out these little details that make scenes confusing. And he is a security expert and yet everyone keeps getting at the h and coming on the property without him knowing it; that really shines him up in my eyes. Her father is supposedly killed and yet had plastic surgery to look like an old friend who is dying; in the end when he clears his name, everyone loves him again, and yet no one mentions that he doesn't look anything like himself? She is supposedly very intelligent and yet when her father's plane crashes in the jungle and only 4 teeth (good old dental records, guess he couldn't leave his fingertips behind) and a remarkably unburned passport is found, and yet she never questions this when he has supposedly stolen jewels with him? There are many more inconsistencies like this that just make me frustrated and the story unlikeable if you like any kind of continuity in your stories. I actually like many of Christina's books but this one I just couldn't get into and suffered through almost 400 pages to try and find its redeeming value.
Again, her books are the best, I will continue to read her books as they are written very well. Thanks!
Great book!
My 2.5 year old girl has the tagline on this book memorized. Nice vivid colors with text interspersed amongst the illustrations. I was worried that the scene with the alligator eating the friends would be traumatic but it was just my hyper-vigilant imagination and when they all escape my children cheer happily.
This story stands well alone, and also as part of a series.
well, written interesting characters that you care about
I absolutely love the Draycott series. The characters are always interesting and the reader quickly begins to care about their problems. I hope Christina Skye will continue this thoroughly entertaining series.
very good book, thanks
